What we do

Programmes & community initiatives

Four long-running programmes, delivered in the parishes of Krimulda, Ragana and Lēdurga and coordinated from our Rīga office. All services are free of charge for participating families.

Positive parenting workshops & educational seminars

01

Positive parenting workshops & educational seminars

Structured group learning for mothers, fathers, grandparents and guardians raising children from birth to eighteen.

Our core course runs over six weekly evening sessions and covers child development stages, emotional regulation, setting boundaries without punishment, sibling conflict, screen use and co-parenting after separation. Groups are capped at fourteen adults and are led by a certified facilitator together with a parent volunteer.

Alongside the course we hold open seminars four to six times a year on subjects requested by families: school readiness, bullying, adolescent mental health, ADHD and learning support, and the family's rights when dealing with social services.

  • Six evenings, 2 hours each, free of charge
  • Free supervised childcare during every session
  • Available in Latvian, with Russian interpretation on request
Child development & creative youth clubs

02

Child development & creative youth clubs

A Saturday club and school-holiday activities for children and teenagers aged 7 to 17.

The club offers woodwork, ceramics, drawing, photography, cooking and outdoor activities in the Gauja valley. It is not a talent school: the aim is that every child has one reliable weekly place where adults are pleased to see them and where effort matters more than results.

For teenagers aged 13–17 we run a separate track focused on practical independence — budgeting, applying for a first job, cooking, first aid and digital safety — plus a junior volunteer scheme in which older participants help run activities for younger children.

  • Two Saturday shifts during the school year
  • Day programmes during the autumn, winter and summer holidays
  • Transport arranged from outlying villages where needed
Psychological counselling & family crisis support

03

Psychological counselling & family crisis support

Funded sessions with qualified psychologists and mediators for families who cannot afford private care and face long public waiting lists.

Families may receive up to ten funded individual or family sessions per year, delivered by contracted psychologists in Sigulda, Rīga or online. Referrals come from schools, the parish social service, general practitioners or directly from families themselves.

In acute situations — separation, bereavement, domestic conflict, a child's self-harm, sudden loss of income — our coordinator responds within two working days, arranges an urgent appointment and helps the family navigate municipal support, benefits and, where necessary, the Orphan's and Custody Court.

Counselling content is strictly confidential. Nothing shared with a psychologist is passed to the association, to a school or to the municipality except where the law requires reporting a threat to a child's life or health.

  • Up to 10 funded sessions per family per year
  • Response to urgent requests within 2 working days
  • Family mediation available for separating parents
Social assistance & material support drives

04

Social assistance & material support drives

Practical help for low-income households, large families, foster carers and single parents.

Twice a year we run collection and distribution drives: school supplies and backpacks before 1 September, and food, warm clothing and hygiene parcels before the winter holidays. Distribution lists are prepared jointly with the parish social service so that support reaches the households that need it and no family is counted twice.

Throughout the year we maintain a small emergency fund for one-off needs — a pair of winter boots, a school trip fee, a pharmacy bill, fuel to reach a hospital appointment — decided by two board members within 72 hours.

  • 1 640 packages distributed in 2025
  • Emergency fund decisions within 72 hours
  • In-kind donations accepted by prior arrangement

How to request support

  1. 1

Call +371 28 333 352 on a weekday between 09:00 and 18:00, or write to us — you may write in Latvian, English or Russian.

  2. 2

A coordinator arranges a short, confidential conversation, in person in Krimulda or by phone, to understand what your family needs.

  3. 3

Together we agree a plan: a workshop place, counselling sessions, material assistance, or a referral to the service that fits better.

  4. 4

There is no means test for workshops and youth activities. For funded counselling and material aid we ask for a brief statement of circumstances, which is seen only by the coordinator and the responsible board member.
